August 9 is the National Day so this month’s prayer concerns are focused on our nation:

1. Repent of self-sufficiency and pride on behalf of our nation and acknowledge that it is God who established us as a sovereign nation and has blessed us.

2. God’s people unite in Christ Jesus, to rise up in prayer, be an example and lead our nation to bless, love and serve the nations around us.

3. Transform Singapore to be a nation where joy abounds and her people will love the Lord, serve and care for others in practical ways.

4. The Church in Singapore will embrace and fulfill her destiny as a centre of Christian witness to the nations, especially in Asia. Hearts to be filled with compassion for the lost.

5. Churches in Singapore will be united in praying for and reaching the nations for Christ through growth in God’s Word and obedience to the Holy Spirit’s leading.

6. God-fearing leaders to govern with godly principles and lead with God’s wisdom.

7. God’s people to rise up and pray regularly for our Government & Leadership.

8. Salvation of our leaders, and faith and courage to do the LORD’s bidding for those who are God’s children.

MARCH is a special month set aside for prayer for the Uighurs. Right now there is a special prayer initiative going on (March 1-21) to raise up 500 hours of prayer for the Uighurs. This initiative leads up to March 21st with the Annual Day of Prayer for the Uighurs on March 21st! Please go to: www.pray4them.com for more information or to sign up for a prayer slot.

There is a big difference in the atmosphere in Urumqi (the capital of Xinjiang province in China) since the horrific events of last July. The streets are empty, thousands of Uighurs have left Urumqi to return to their villages and there is much fear. And yet…this could be the perfect environment for God to move! The political situation for the more than 10 Million Uighurs in China is very similar to the political situation that Jesus was born into 2000 years ago. And yet, He came into the midst of that tumultuous situation with peace and hope and salvation. He is the same today and wants to come to the Uighurs with the same promise of peace, hope and salvation! Please pray for God to move amongst the Uighur people in a special way, drawing many to Christ! Praise God for recent reports of Uighurs in the villages coming to Christ! Continue to pray as well for Alimjan who has been given a 15 year prison sentence for his faith.&n! bsp; Pray for God to do a miracle and for this court decision to be overturned. Pray for Alimjan and his wife and children to be strengthened and encouraged during this very difficult time.

Thank you for standing in the gap for the Uighurs!

1. The congregation of English adults and youths will be very clear about the kind of disciple that we want to build: Evangelism and Missions (World), the Work of the Spirit (Revival), Prayer (Prayer), Discipleship in community (Fellowship), and will desire to work together in unity on making such disciples.

THANK GOD…

The prayer for church administrator has been answered and we have found one! Praise the Lord. That the economy in Singapore is mending quickly.

PRAY FOR….

1. HOPE cell outreach/harvest:

a) for loved ones and friends to be positive and responsive during Christmas to attend the cell harvest event and to received Christ as Savior.

b) that the cells will be prepared and in expectancy of faith to see what God will do when they act in faith and obedience to the great commission.

c) that the spiritual forces of evil will cease all operations against the salvation of lost and precious souls and cell cohesion and unity.

2. For the recruitment of Children’s pastor for the Good News Kids. We have tried Malaysian contacts, Singaporean contacts, and not a single application has arrived. Pray the Lord of the harvest will send a labourer to us.

3. For all the pastors and missionaries as they go through changes and transitions in their lives and do the detailed planning resulting from the consultancy and strategic planning retreat at Batam. Pray especially for Pastor Newman and family as they move on into a new chapter in his life, and for Stephen Tay as he process his term in Turkey and seek the Lord about the future.

4. For all the families and folks to be blessed in their “going out and coming in” during the vacation period. That family ties will be strengthened and deepened and tired minds and bodies refreshed.

5. For Simon and Rinda in their retreat ministry in Chiangmai, usually one of their busier periods, that the Lord will meet with many of the retreatants “face to face”.

6. For Judith Chia and the GNK core group, as she takes over the leadership from Salome Wong.

7. For the Board of Elders who have completed half the year of service. Another six months of serving and loving and leading God’s people. Pray especially for the President Alvin Lim.

8. For the Worship Ministry: the musicians, the worship leaders and singers, the AV helpers. That the Lord will refresh the teams and they will serve with faith, skill, zeal and love for the Lord.

9. For the pastors and leaders of ministry as they plan ministry for the year and implement a new budgetting process: zero and narrative budgetting process.

Here’s a picture of us when we had a Missions, Interim and Short-Term (MIST) training. As you can see we are all in multicultural costumes. We took that picture after a exercise on cultural exchange. We only recently just have some idea of our itinerary, because originally we were supposed to do work in Bihar but due to unforseen circumstances we had our programme switched to Kolkata. In any case, now we would be there over Christmas so we have been asked to prepare Christmas songs, and we can expect to act out a skit perhaps, reaching our to children and youths (both studying and working) in church. They have even suggested soccer outreach, which is obviously of great interest to me and Moses! I’m really excited…please pray for us.

Prayer Points:

1. India. For peace after the general election and wisdom for leaders in ruling this nation. Poverty is still a major concern in various parts of North India particularly.
2. Spiritual preparation + protection. As the date draws closer, I am aware of the spiritual warfare that is taking place. Please pray for our walk with God to be fervent and disciplined, and for our hearts to be prepared for the unexpected.
3. Finances. We came to a realisation yesterday that our expenses have exceeded our initial budget, with more to come. We believe that God will provide, and will continue to trust in His perfect timing.
4. Itinerary. We are still awaiting news from the other side of India with regards to our trip’s itinerary. We have been told to be spontaneous and prepared for whatever plans they have organized for us but it would be good to have a rough idea of the projects that we’ll be involved in.

“BE STILL BEFORE THE LORD, AND WAIT PATIENTLY FOR HIM.” (PSALM 37:7)

PRAY……….

1. That the Lord, in the church’s 38th year, will empower us to set forth on the path of progress and growth in our mission. Thank God the church has not sunk as some said it would, but is on even keel. Now the course for the coming years have been drawn out by the navigators. Its time for all hands on deck, each doing his part, to move the ship onward. Pray for cohesiveness and sustained application and implementation.

2. For the board of elders to be strong and courageous as it works with the pastors to move the church in the direction set out during the excellent planning retreat.

3. For the Lord to help us find suitable candidates to fill two positions: Church Administrator and Children’s Pastor.

4. For the Lord to have mercy and the international aid agencies and donor countries to be quick in showing up to help the Philippines, Samoa, and Indonesia. The devastation was caused by typhoon, underwater earthquake and land earthquake.

5. For Mahal our Filippino member whose family house was badly affected. Also for her church in Manila, especially the poorer members who need help. Pray that more help will come to them besides what our church will do.

6. Pray for Stephen Tay as he prays about his future; for Simeon Siau to gain new strength and divine health; and our other missionaries in sensitive countries. Pray also for Jude Ng as he has decided to take a further step by applying to take the next step in the missions track of our church. This entails attending the School of Foreign Missions, YWAM.

7. Pray for the youth exco headed by Dr Sharon Sim and team as they pray and plan and plough on. And also for Pastor Mary who is currently resting for two months.

8. Pray for the pastoral staff as they do detailed planning and calendering for 2010 before they submit them to the BOE and the head of depts to guide their budgetting.

1. Pray for God’s grace to be upon the church as we go through many changes, but especially hold up the pastoral staff and board of elders in love and prayer.

2. The church consultant has practically finished his work. Pray for the Board of Elders, pastoral staff and key persons as they go on retreat to pray and plan the church direction for the next several years.

3. Pray for the recruitment of a church administrator and pastor (children ministry). The right person would be found and he or she would be a blessing and be blessed in the service of the Lord.

4. For our partner Pastor John in Yangon, Myanmar. Pastor Thomas has just gone there to encourage and refresh him, train leaders using MLM, and also to see the progress of the church building project(Look oout for the pictorial report which will be posted soon).

5. Pray for our young people preparing themselves for major exams. Its easy to be discouraged, distracted and feel like giving up. They need our prayers as they fulfill their responsibilities before God in studies. For parents to be encouraging, sensitive and supportive during this time.

6. For all who attended and completed Alpha Course, that they will build on the solid foundation they have received and will grow in grace and in the knowledge of God and be salt and light to other non-Christians.

7. For all cell group leaders to be revitalized even as they feel weary at times. Pray for unity and faithful and supportive cell members to use their gifts and abilities to serve one another in the cell groups.
