Each week features a theme that was inline with the topic of the week. The first week’s theme was Mystery , complementing the topic of the week which was ‘Who Is Jesus?’

The topic of week 2 was 'Why did Jesus die?' and the theme of that week was 'People of the world', hence we have MeL Chen gamely dressed up in a pretty cheongsam trying to avoid getting caught in the Filipino bamboo dance

Some other themes includes Directions, Illusions, and my personal favourite: Food

Inline with 'Why and How Should We Pray?' the theme of the week was 'Food'. Why? Because Christians always pray before meals! That's why!

And if the theme is 'Food', what better games to play than food games! Filipinos loves egg tarts too! And Mike certainly looks like he's enjoying himself!

After fun and games, guests settle down to watch a 45-minute video where, each week, Nicky Gumbel takes the audience through various topics such as ‘How can we have Faith?’ and ‘Why and how should I read the Bible?’

After the video, guests break up into groups to discuss on the topic of the week.

Open sharings in a group is a great way to raise questions on various topics such as 'What is God's grace' or 'How does God speak to us?'

After group discussions comes my favourite part of the afternoon: FOOD!  Dinner is a great way to bond and we all know that Singaporeans’ favourite pastime is eating what.

A sumptious spread awaits, because deep and itimate group sharing is a lot of hard work! It's time to dig in!

The best way to end any programme is with food! Yum!

End of the theory: Start of the practical!

World Revival Prayer Fellowship had its 2nd run of the Alpha Marriage course from 21st February to 18th April 2009. With the experience of four organizers from the 1st  run – Pastor Thomas, leading this year’s organizing team, Jasmine, Sunny & Annie – and the able assistance of Shaun & Kay, organization of this event went more smoothly than the first run. There were 7 sessions in total, and the course was held every Saturday from 4 to 7 pm (including dinner).  Each couple paid only $120 with WRPF subsidizing about 50%.

Besides fostering the strengthening of marriages between our church’s wedded couples, the objective of this course was also to reach out to pre-believers in the hope that they will come to experience God in their marriages. This run saw an attendance of 15 couples, 7 of whom were church members. Of the balance 8 couples, 3 couples were pre-believers while another 2 couples were backslid Christians. Average attendance for the course was 78%.

On the last session, the team organized the inaugural “Celebration Party” for past and present participants of Alpha Marriage. This program was well executed and received positive feedback from the participants.

Overall the course was well-received and had few hiccups:  The team will look into suggestions provided by the participants via feedback forms as to further improvements to future runs. Kudos to the team who organized this course!

Over the past 26 years, more than 13 million people from all walks of life have attended the Alpha course. Participants come for a wide variety of reasons – some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other peoples’ beliefs or would like to explore what the purpose of life is. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith.
